Policy and Planning
UNDP supports Jordan to achieve sustainable development that leads to transformational change, bringing about real improvements in people’s lives, through addressing complex development challenges that affect the Kingdom. While the challenges Jordan faces are unpredictable, as a quasi-governmental organization, the UNDP is strategically positioned to provide support in policy coherence and dialogue through mainstreaming the Sustainable Development Goals and other national priorities across national and local development plans and strategies.
The Development Impact Policy and Planning (DIPP) pillar aims to support sustainable development in Jordan by undertaking appropriate policy and programmatic interventions for integrating sustainable development goals and principles in the national development planning frameworks, and UNDP’s work in general. This will be achieved by emphasizing impact measurement and sustainability of impact by engaging with relevant governmental agencies to enable an effective, coherent institutional framework for 2030 Agenda implementation that is gender-sensitive in its nature and focuses on youth empowerment and participation.
Special attention is given to providing technical support to the Government of Jordan (GoJ) to enhance existing monitoring and evaluation systems through the establishment of a national monitoring system and dashboard on Goal indicators and achievements. UNDP is also supporting the design of an effective national statistical system to ensure the availability of comprehensive, accurate and updated data. Efforts are also focused on identifying opportunities for advocacy and joint programming around Agenda 2030 and gender equality and women’s empowerment in Jordan as outlined in international commitments and priorities.
Through this Pillar, UNDP strives to address national constraints and challenges through a type of support that moves more towards prioritizing the use of innovation to better respond to the evolving challenges and ensuring sustainable impact that is aligned with the national plans and the SDGs. Focus will be on the adoption of improved policies, data collection, exchange and tracking systems, enhanced accountability and strengthened donor coordination mechanisms, and gender mainstreaming that will emphasize the importance of leadership, national ownership and commitment as prerequisites to ensure impact and sustainability of efforts.
