Under the patronage of the Minister of Environment, Dr. Yasin Khayyat, UNDP has signed 8 grants with CBOs to implement pioneer environmental projects aiming to improve the environmental situation in Jordan. This activity comes as part of “Mainstreaming Rio Convention Provisions into National Sectoral Policies in Jordan” project aiming to produce core outputs leading to targeted Rio Convention mainstreaming in two priority strategies and plans: The National Rangeland Strategy, the National Drought Management Action Plan.

UNDP recognized that bridging the mainstreaming processes at national level with the local development processes require innovative pilot projects, through which practical methods for Rio principles mainstreaming can be demonstrated. In this regard, USD 308,000 were allocated to implement several pilots that contribute to overcome both mentioned strategies.

This project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and GaOLWaSH .
