Honoring Winners of the Environmental Media Competition: "The Environment Knows No Borders"

Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Environment; the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment organized a ceremony to honor a number of journalists and media experts who participated in "The Environment Knows No Borders" media contest.

Awards and certificates were distributed to the winners of the contest, which aimed to promote the understanding and to raise public awareness on the importance of the concentrated local and global efforts to address different environmental problems and issues. This activity comes as part of the "Mainstreaming Rio Convention Provisions into National Sectoral Policies" project implemented by the Ministry of Environment and funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and UNDP, which aims to overcome the institutional and technical constraints facing Jordan in the implementation of the international conventions and the adoption of principles for sustainable management of the environment and natural item of value.

Also, and in recognition of the growing role of the media in highlighting the various environmental topics in Jordan, certificates were handed to a group of journalists as thank you for efforts during the year in covering local and international environmental issues, and their participation in the specialized training workshop on "Active Media Coverage for Local and Global Environmental Issues" which was held from 19-21 October.
