    UNDP holds training workshop on developing "Maps of Risks and Resources" for municipalities

    Representatives from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and the Ministry of Interior and representatives from Mafraq and Irbid municipalities with UNDP team members from the "Mitigating the Impact of the Syrian Refugee Crisis on Jordanian Vulnerable Host Communities project participated in a two days' workshop conducted by UNDP Lebanon based on invitation from UNDP Jordan titled: "Maps of Risks and Resources" (MRR).

    Tripartite cooperation agreement to boost employment opportunities for Jordanian youth

    The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Zain Jordan and National Microfinance Bank Jordan entered into a tripartite cooperation agreement to implement an emergency employment initiative within the framework of the "Mitigating the Impact of the Syrian Refugee Crisis on Jordanian Vulnerable Host Communities project" which contributes to sustain social and economic stability.

    UNDP celebrates the graduation of youth from an intensive vocational training programme

    UNDP celebrated the graduation of 134 young men and women who successfully completed an intensive training program in production and assembly lines training as well as in heating and ventilation training. A total of 30 young women from the municipality of Al- Salhyia and Sabha in Mafraq Governorate received the training in addition to 30 young women from the governorate of Irbid. A total of 23 young men from Irbid Governorate received training on heating and ventilation and another 46 from Mafraq Governorate received the same training.

    By-election concludes weeks of preparation by independent election commission

    On 29 November 2014, Men and Women of Irbid headed out of their homes to cast their ballots in a by-election for a vacant seat in the Lower House of Parliament. Late in the evening of the same day, the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) of Jordan announced the official results and declared the winner.

    UNDP launches Jordan "Third National Communication on Climate Change"

    In partnership with the Ministry of Environment, UNDP launched "Third National Communications on Climate change in Jordan" on Tuesday November 25. The report was prepared by the Ministry of Environment through a national team of experts and it took two years of extensive research and work. The report identified four major risks associated with climate change for the sector: temperature increase, rainfall decrease, droughts and a shift in the wet season, with cropping systems, livestock production, and livelihood and food security being affected the most.

    Independent Election Commission engages with civil society for by-election in Irbid

    The EU-UNDP electoral assistance project in Jordan supported a workshop by the Independent Election Commission (IEC) with civil society organizations in Irbid’s 2nd district, where by-elections will take place to fill a vacant parliamentary seat on 29 November 2014.

    The EU-UNDP electoral assistance project in Jordan supported a four-day study visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina for officials of the Independent Election Commission (IEC). The visit coincided with national elections held on 12 October 2014.

    Enhancing social accountability for better delivery of health services in Jordan

    Under the patronage of His Excellency, Minister of Health, Dr. Ali Hyasat, the United Nation Development program (UNDP) announced the “Enhancing Social Accountability for Better Delivery of Health Services” Initiative results, on June 10, 2014 at the meridian Hotel in Amman. The initiative is in partnership with the Anticorruption Commission and the Ministry of Health and in collaboration with the High Health Council and the recently joined, the National Woman’s Health Care Center.

    600 youth graduate from UNDP supported employment project

    UNDP and DHL prepare airport staff for disaster

    Deutsche Post DHL and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) launched a “Get Airports Ready for Disaster” (GARD) workshop at the Queen Alia International Airport in Amman/Jordan. Running from September 7th – 10th, the workshop prepares airport personnel for the logistics of emergencies, including handling high volumes of incoming goods and passengers in the aftermath of a disaster. The 30 participants are a mix of staff from airport operations, air traffic control, security and relevant disaster management agencies that play a vital role in the aftermath of a natural disaster.

    UNDP and Japan deliver solid waste compactors to Irbid and Mafraq governorates

    Under the patronage of the Minister of Municipalities Affaires, Engineer Waleed al Masri, UNDP and Japan Embassy handed over new solid waste compactors to Mafraq and Irbid governorates; specifically to Sabha and Al Dafyaneh, Um Jmal, AL-Salheyah and al Mafraq Municipalities located in Mafraq governorate and in Al Ramtha, Irbid municipalities located in Irbid governorate. The ceremony took place in Sabha and al Dafyaneh municipality in Mafraq on Tuesday, August 26. Attended the event; Ambassador of Japan, UNDP country Director, Mafraq and Irbid Governors and Director of the Local development directorate in the Ministry of Internal Affairs

    UNDP launches early warning system on floods in Wadi Musa, Petra

    The launch comes as part of UNDP’s support to the PDTRA in the domain of Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation and represents an attempt to mainstream Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) capacities in local development initiatives. The project was funded by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and cost shared by the Government of Jordan and PDTRA.

    UNDP and ASEZA launch sudies on marine and coastal environment

    Under the patronage of Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority Dr. Kamel Mhadein, and with the support from United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) Launched on Tuesday, August 19th new studies and outcomes developed through the project of "Marine Biodiversity Conservation into Coastal Zone Management in the Aqaba Special Economic Zone".
