  • By-election concludes weeks of preparation by independent election commission Dec 9, 2014

    On 29 November 2014, Men and Women of Irbid headed out of their homes to cast their ballots in a by-election for a vacant seat in the Lower House of Parliament. Late in the evening of the same day, the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) of Jordan announced the official results and declared the winner.

  • UNDP launches Jordan "Third National Communication on Climate Change" Nov 27, 2014

    In partnership with the Ministry of Environment, UNDP launched "Third National Communications on Climate change in Jordan" on Tuesday November 25. The report was prepared by the Ministry of Environment through a national team of experts and it took two years of extensive research and work. The report identified four major risks associated with climate change for the sector: temperature increase, rainfall decrease, droughts and a shift in the wet season, with cropping systems, livestock production, and livelihood and food security being affected the most.

    The EU-UNDP electoral assistance project in Jordan supported a workshop by the Independent Election Commission (IEC) with civil society organizations in Irbid’s 2nd district, where by-elections will take place to fill a vacant parliamentary seat on 29 November 2014.

    The EU-UNDP electoral assistance project in Jordan supported a four-day study visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina for officials of the Independent Election Commission (IEC). The visit coincided with national elections held on 12 October 2014.

  • Get Airports Ready for Disaster” workshop in Jordan Sep 9, 2014

    Deutsche Post DHL and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) launched a “Get Airports Ready for Disaster” (GARD) workshop at the Queen Alia International Airport in Amman/Jordan. Running from September 7th – 10th, the workshop prepares airport personnel for the logistics of emergencies, including handling high volumes of incoming goods and passengers in the aftermath of a disaster. The 30 participants are a mix of staff from airport operations, air traffic control, security and relevant disaster management agencies that play a vital role in the aftermath of a natural disaster.

  • UNDP and Japan deliver solid waste compactors to Irbid and Mafraq governorates Aug 28, 2014

    Under the patronage of the Minister of Municipalities Affaires, Engineer Waleed al Masri, UNDP and Japan Embassy handed over new solid waste compactors to Mafraq and Irbid governorates; specifically to Sabha and Al Dafyaneh, Um Jmal, AL-Salheyah and al Mafraq Municipalities located in Mafraq governorate and in Al Ramtha, Irbid municipalities located in Irbid governorate. The ceremony took place in Sabha and al Dafyaneh municipality in Mafraq on Tuesday, August 26. Attended the event; Ambassador of Japan, UNDP country Director, Mafraq and Irbid Governors and Director of the Local development directorate in the Ministry of Internal Affairs

  • UNDP launches early warning system on floods in Wadi Musa, Petra Aug 21, 2014

    The launch comes as part of UNDP’s support to the PDTRA in the domain of Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation and represents an attempt to mainstream Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) capacities in local development initiatives. The project was funded by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and cost shared by the Government of Jordan and PDTRA.
