  • UNDP Jordan Enhances Health and Environmental Conditions of Al-kaidar Landfill Aug 22, 2017

    The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), funded by the Government of Canada and in a collaboration with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and the Joint Services Council in Irbid, initiated the establishment of the first sanitary cell in Al-kaidar landfill, the second largest landfill in Jordan in the Northern region, in accordance with the international standards for solid waste cell lining, leachate collection system and biogas collection system.

  • UNDP Supports the IEC in Conducting Successful Elections in Jordan Jul 20, 2016

    Jordan today is busy preparing for the upcoming Parliamentary Elections which will take place on the 20th of September 2016. The call for the election of a new parliament came about after a period of significant political developments, which included His Majesty King Abdullah II dissolving the Lower House of Parliament and the formation of a new cabinet led by Prime Minister Hani Mulqi. A key stated responsibility of the new cabinet was to facilitate the work of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) towards administering a successful national poll.

  • UNDP trains structural engineers on seismic analysis and retrofitting Aug 31, 2014

    The United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) started the third training in a series of courses directed at building the capacity of a team of structural engineers from public and private sector, alongside members of academia, the series of trainings aims at building the capacities to assess buildings for seismic vulnerability and produce designs for enhancement. During the courses, the engineers will be assessing a total of 15 critical buildings; i.e. civil defense centers and public schools across the country.

    The United Nations Development Programme, in partnership with Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) and Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) launched a training program to equip two teams in the cities of Aqaba and Petra as the pilot search and rescue teams supporting their respective neighborhoods in case of a disaster response situation.

  • UNDP and PDTRA establish an early warning system for flash floods Aug 20, 2014

    The United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) launched on August 20th an "Early Warning System for Flash Floods" in Petra and Wadi Mousa. The launch comes as part of UNDP’s support to the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) in the domain of Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation and represents an attempt to mainstream Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) capacities in local development initiatives. The project was funded by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and cost shared by the Government of Jordan and PDTRA.
