  • Get Airports Ready for Disaster” workshop in Jordan Sep 9, 2014

    Deutsche Post DHL and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) launched a “Get Airports Ready for Disaster” (GARD) workshop at the Queen Alia International Airport in Amman/Jordan. Running from September 7th – 10th, the workshop prepares airport personnel for the logistics of emergencies, including handling high volumes of incoming goods and passengers in the aftermath of a disaster. The 30 participants are a mix of staff from airport operations, air traffic control, security and relevant disaster management agencies that play a vital role in the aftermath of a natural disaster.

  • UNDP trains structural engineers on seismic analysis and retrofitting Aug 31, 2014

    The United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) started the third training in a series of courses directed at building the capacity of a team of structural engineers from public and private sector, alongside members of academia, the series of trainings aims at building the capacities to assess buildings for seismic vulnerability and produce designs for enhancement. During the courses, the engineers will be assessing a total of 15 critical buildings; i.e. civil defense centers and public schools across the country.

  • UNDP and Japan deliver solid waste compactors to Irbid and Mafraq governorates Aug 28, 2014

    Under the patronage of the Minister of Municipalities Affaires, Engineer Waleed al Masri, UNDP and Japan Embassy handed over new solid waste compactors to Mafraq and Irbid governorates; specifically to Sabha and Al Dafyaneh, Um Jmal, AL-Salheyah and al Mafraq Municipalities located in Mafraq governorate and in Al Ramtha, Irbid municipalities located in Irbid governorate. The ceremony took place in Sabha and al Dafyaneh municipality in Mafraq on Tuesday, August 26. Attended the event; Ambassador of Japan, UNDP country Director, Mafraq and Irbid Governors and Director of the Local development directorate in the Ministry of Internal Affairs

  • UNDP supports PDTRA and ASEZA train and equip neighborhood volunteer teams Aug 24, 2014

    The United Nations Development Programme, in partnership with Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) and Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) launched a training program to equip two teams in the cities of Aqaba and Petra as the pilot search and rescue teams supporting their respective neighborhoods in case of a disaster response situation.

    The launch comes as part of UNDP’s support to the PDTRA in the domain of Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation and represents an attempt to mainstream Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) capacities in local development initiatives. The project was funded by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and cost shared by the Government of Jordan and PDTRA.

    The United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) launched on August 20th an "Early Warning System for Flash Floods" in Petra and Wadi Mousa. The launch comes as part of UNDP’s support to the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) in the domain of Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation and represents an attempt to mainstream Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) capacities in local development initiatives.   • UNDP and ASEZA launch studies on marine and coastal environment Aug 19, 2014

    Under the patronage of Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority Dr. Kamel Mhadein, and with the support from United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) Launched on Tuesday, August 19th new studies and outcomes developed through the project of "Marine Biodiversity Conservation into Coastal Zone Management in the Aqaba Special Economic Zone". Ceremony Launch took place in Intercontinental- Aqaba.

  • Introducing vocational training and job placement for Jordanian youth Aug 18, 2014

    In 2013, UNDP and Jordan Education For Employment (JEFE, formerly JCEF), with the support of the Government of Japan and the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC), launched vocational training and job placement projects. The main aim is to alleviate poverty and to facilitate economic growth in under-served Jordanian governorates, including Irbid and Mafraq, that are host to the largest population of Syrian refugees.

  • UNDP and RUWWAD sign an agreement to support resilient livelihoods Aug 18, 2014

    The United Nation Development Programme and Ruwwad for Development signed on Monday August 18th new agreement for the implementation of the newly designed program titled 3x6 aims at promoting sustainable livelihoods for vulnerable groups in local communities in north of Jordan who are in affected by the Syrian crises.
